Certification in Aesthetic Medicine
The American Board Training Center by ABAM provides comprehensive training across various disciplines. Physicians undergoing training must attend and pass written examinations at steps one, two, and three. Subsequently, trainees must complete an additional 6-month hands-on practical training, along with submitting a portfolio showcasing advanced technical skills in areas such as botulinum toxin injection, dermal filler injection, and laser or chemical resurfacing to be qualified for the final board examination.
Step 1: Aesthetic Medicine Training
In Step 1, participants will undergo training to acquire fundamental knowledge and skills in the field of aesthetic medicine include; understanding the anatomy of the skin and hair, basic botulinum toxin techniques, basic dermal filler techniques, basic laser and light therapy techniques (resurfacing / hair removal / tattoo removal IPL) and basic knowledge of safety in using chemicals and aesthetic medical tools.
The training involves practical demonstrations and hands-on experience in a real clinical setting, such as beauty centers and medical spa facilities. Step 1: Aesthetic Medicine Training

Step 2: Advanced Aesthetic Medicine Training
Participants who have successfully completed Step 1 at the American Board Training Center or those with basic knowledge and skills in aesthetic medicine are qualified to participate in the second phase of training, in which participants will gain their knowledge in aesthetic medicine with a focus on the most detailed aspects and modern advanced techniques in aesthetic medicine, including facial contouring using botox, dermal filler, and advanced aesthetic laser procedures. This phase aims to elevate participants’ abilities in aesthetic medicine to a higher level. The Step 2 training includes advanced topics such as:
- Advanced Botulinum Toxin Techniques Training including eyelid tightening, scar reduction, smile correction, facial reshaping by using botulinum toxin.
- Advanced Dermal Filler Injection Techniques Training which include the facial contouring and shaping procedures such as under-eye filler injections, cheek augmentation with fillers, and non-surgical nose reshaping with fillers.
- Facial Analysis Training for Aesthetic Procedures to analyze the face to complement other procedures. This training is considered to be the most important training in Step 2.
- Advanced Laser Techniques Training which is the combination of therapy for skin rejuvenation and vascular treatments.
- Other Training such as Microneedling or CIT atrophic scars treatments, essential aesthetic dermatology, and cosmeceutical will also be covered.
After successfully completing all the advanced training modules, participants will receive the Advanced Certificate in Aesthetic Medicine. Following this, there is a requirement to spend an additional 6 months of practical training before entering Step 3.
Step 3: Anti-Aging Medicine
After successfully completing the training and receiving certification in Step 2 from the American Board Training Center, participants are required to undergo an additional 6 months of practical training before progressing to Step 3.
In Step 3 training, participants will learn advanced dermal filler injection techniques for facial contouring and shaping. The training covers various procedures, including filler injection techniques for temple, facial framing, chin, and hand. Additionally, participants will be instructed in techniques such as Sclerotherapy for treating Varicose veins, non-surgical skin tightening, non-surgical body contouring, fat removal procedures, and Sculptra procedures.
Step 3 training is specifically designed to expand knowledge in the fields of Anti-Aging Medicine and Regenerative Medicine. It includes fundamental concepts in cell therapy, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment, and Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). Furthermore, the training covers the assessment of elderly patients, the female reproductive hormone system, stem cell harvesting, nutritional systems, and physical fitness.
Upon completion of Step 3 training at the American Board Training Center, participants will be awarded the Certificate in Anti-Aging Medicine. This comprehensive certification encompasses a broad spectrum of medical knowledge and skills related to anti-aging and regenerative medicine.

After successfully completing the training and receiving certification in Step 2 from the American Board Training Center, participants are required to undergo an additional 6 months of practical training before progressing to Step 3.
